Atelier Khan provides architectural design services for residential projects across London, from early feasibility through to detailed technical design.

Our work is grounded in a clear understanding of context, planning constraints and buildability, ensuring design ideas are both ambitious and deliverable. We approach each project individually, responding to the site, the existing building and the way the home will be used.

A Context-Led Design Approach

Good residential architecture begins with careful observation. We take time to understand the site, neighbouring properties, planning policy and the character of the existing building before developing proposals.

Our designs aim to:

  • Improve light, flow and spatial quality

  • Respect the scale and proportions of the original building

  • Respond sensitively to surroundings

  • Create homes that feel coherent, calm and considered

WHAT THIS SERVICE INCLUDES

  • Architectural design from concept to technical stage

  • Planning advice and applications where required

  • Building regulations and technical packages

  • Coordination with structural engineers and consultants

Our Architectural Design Process

1. Feasibility & Concept Design

We begin with feasibility and concept design to explore what is possible within planning, spatial and budgetary constraints.

This stage may include:

  • Site appraisal and constraints review

  • Initial layout and massing studies

  • Early planning advice

  • Design options discussion

2. Planning & Developed Design

Planning drawings, simple massing model, or exterior study.

Where required, we prepare and manage planning applications, developing the design to respond to policy, context and feedback.

This stage typically includes:

  • Planning submissions and coordination

  • Design development and refinement

  • Liaison with planning officers

  • Consultant coordination where needed

3. Technical Design & Building Regulations

Detail drawing, material junction, or measured drawing excerpt.

We produce clear, coordinated technical information to support construction and building regulations approval.

This includes:

  • Detailed architectural drawings

  • Building regulations packages

  • Structural coordination

  • Specification and detailing input

Design intent is carefully carried through to ensure it can be built as envisioned.

Experience with London Planning & Constraints

Much of our work involves London properties subject to:

  • Conservation area controls

  • Permitted development limitations

  • Party wall considerations

  • Tight urban sites and neighbouring amenity constraints

Our experience navigating these conditions allows us to design with realism and confidence from the outset.

Design That Translates into Built Work

Where projects progress beyond design, we ensure continuity through planning, technical development and delivery. Our architectural services integrate seamlessly with our wider project experience, ensuring ideas are translated accurately into built form.
